Rooted Threads: Rural Women's Wellness Initiative
Rooted Voices is a women-led program restoring health, heritage, and prosperity for rural BIPOC women farmers in Franklin County, NC. Centered at The Porte, our initiative blends regenerative agriculture training with arts-based healing and cultural archiving—because strong farms start with strong women.
Across seasonal 12-week cohorts and summer retreat intensives, participants gain hands-in-soil skills (soil health, irrigation, crop planning, wash/pack), small-farm finance and USDA/NRCS navigation, and mentorship with local host farms. Wellness is woven through every step: AHH (Art Heals HER) circles, yoga/meditation, herbalism via our mobile A-Porte-thecary, and restorative practices that reduce stress, build resilience, and protect long-term health. Each cohort contributes labor-in-kind farm projects, and preserves land stories through quilting and a growing digital archive.
Rooted Voices also removes barriers—gas cards, modest graduations, and expert roundtables (attorneys, accountants, buyers, grant writers)—so women can launch viable farm enterprises and keep their land. Outcomes include improved wellbeing, increased farm income, cooperative marketing, and expanded local food access for families, pantries, and schools. Join us as we heal land, uplift women, and cultivate a thriving rural future.

Mobile Arts & Ag Learning Lab
Our Mobile Arts & Ag Learning Lab brings creativity and cultivation right to your doorstep. Through Farm 2 YOUth, participants dig into the world of farming, agritourism, and plant medicine—learning to identify, harvest, and process herbs into teas, salves, oils, and more. Arts 2 YOUth sparks imagination through painting, music jam sessions, improv, and creative expression workshops that promote confidence, healing, and collaboration.
These interactive programs are designed for schools, youth groups, and communities—but the learning doesn’t stop there. By simply removing the “th,” we expand our curriculum to adults through Farm 2 YOU and Arts 2 YOU, delivering the same transformative blend of agricultural wisdom and artistic exploration to corporate retreats, wellness groups, and community events.
Wherever we go, we bring connection, creativity, and the power to grow—from soil to soul.
Step aboard for a powerful journey through the fields, stories, and futures of Black farming in North Carolina. The Black Ag Farm Tour celebrates the land stewards, innovators, and healers cultivating change from the soil up. Hosted by the Rooted Voices: Land & Legacy Collective, this immersive experience connects participants to the living history and modern movement of Black agriculture — from regenerative practices and herbal medicine to cooperative economics and food sovereignty.
Each stop offers a window into legacy and resilience: farm tours, storytelling circles, tastings, and live interviews that bring the spirit of the land to life. Whether you’re a grower, educator, student, or supporter, you’ll leave inspired to honor the past, sustain the present, and plant seeds for the future.
